Gaming-centric broadband and mobile provider MyRepublic yesterday announced the launch of Singapore's first dedicated collectibles insurance product, aptly named Geek Insurance.
Underwritten by HL Assurance, Geek Insurance is designed for collectors of trading cards (think Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering), figurines (e.g. Funko Pops and anime figures), comic books and manga, video games and consoles (both modern and vintage), memorabilia and merchandise (including signed items and movie props), and limited-edition sneakers. Stamp and coin collections, however, do not qualify for a Geek Insurance policy. Collectors are encouraged to contact MyRepublic if they're unsure if their collection is eligible.
The policy protects collectibles from theft, break-ins, floods, fires and other insured events. Interestingly, it also includes home contents insurance, covering other items like furniture, electronics and other belongings.

MyRepublic offers two insurance tiers, depending on your budget: Standard, which costs $4.90 per month for up to $30,000 worth of household contents (including collectibles, electronics and the cost of temporary storage), while Pro will set you back $7.90 per month for coverage up to $50,000, which includes higher sub-limits for valuables, electronics and temporary storage.
MyRepublic Geek Insurance is charged on a monthly basis with no lock-in contract. The only catch is that the policy is currently only available to MyRepublic customers.
If you're in the market for a new fibre broadband plan, here's a look at MyRepublic's offerings.
