Smartphone batteries are funny things. They're one of the few features that tend to get worse the more you spend, with some budget phones lasting for a couple of days more than their flagship counterparts. Well, the OPPO Find X9 is here to change that, bringing some of the best battery life we've seen to a premium package, along with exceptional cameras, snappy performance and a gorgeous, almost bezel-free display. Oh, and did we mention it's cheaper than last year?

What we like about the OPPO Find X9

Two-day battery life. It's not the feature that you'll likely see at the top of OPPO's marketing materials, but the Find X9's battery life is one of its biggest advantages. That 7,025mAh battery translates into about two days of moderate use without a single top-up in between. It's also refreshing to see a charging brick (and a beefy 80W one at that) in the box, which is capable of fully charging the X9 in a little over an hour.

Pro-level cameras. Despite lacking the "Pro" epithet found on its more expensive sibling, the OPPO Find X9 is no slouch in the photography department, with a 50MP ultrawide lens, 50MP wide-angle lens, 50MP telephoto lens and 2MP monochrome lens. All four work together to produce rich, dynamic shots, even at night, which tends to be most smartphones' downfall. Plus, you can manually adjust ISO, shutter speed, exposure, focus, and white balance—something usually gatekept to Pro models.

Almost bezel-free display. It's been a long time since I saw a smartphone display that was anything less than incredible, but the OPPO Find X9 takes it one step further by essentially eradicating bezels on its expansive 6.59-inch display. Plus, with not one, but three dust and water-resistance ratings (IP66, IP68 and IP69), that display—along with the rest of the phone—should withstand any accidental drops at the beach.

Great performance. The OPPO Find X9 runs on the same flagship processor as the Find X9 Pro, the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, with the same 16GB of RAM. It can handle just about anything you throw at it, from basic daily tasks to more demanding activities, like graphics-heavy mobile games.

Price decrease. While most smartphones are getting pricier with each new generation, the Find X9 bucks the trend with a $1,299 RRP, down from the Find X8's RRP of $1,349. That puts it on par with the iPhone 17, Samsung Galaxy S25, and Vivo X300.

What we dislike about the OPPO Find X9

Eerily familiar design. OPPO has taken more than a few cues from Apple this year, switching from years of a circular camera bump to a square array similar to that of the iPhone 16 Pro. Adding to the uncanny similarity is the Find X9's Snap Key, an almost carbon copy of the iPhone's Action Button, right down to the UI of the function selection.

ColorOS bloatware. In terms of appearance, customisation and user friendliness, ColorOS 16 isn't bad. It's not my favourite Android skin, but it's far from the worst. What really brings it down is the bloatware that, at this price point, is a major detractor. It's also important to note that the OPPO Find X9 comes with five years of software updates, which is good, but falls short of the seven years on offer from the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Google.

No Qi2. If you were hoping to be able to use Qi2 accessories like a battery pack or phone mount, you won't be able to do so with the OPPO Find X9. It's a shame, considering just about every flagship from Apple, Samsung, and Google does support Qi2 in some capacity. There is, of course, wireless charging capabilities, but you'll need a proprietary OPPO AirVOOC charger.

AI image-processing weirdness. Although the OPPO Find X9 is capable of taking some amazing shots up to its 6x optical limit, anything beyond about 15x or 20x zoom will likely result in some unexpected results. In my tests, that meant overly-smoothed textures and some garbled text.

OPPO Find X9 - Final thoughts

If you're after a pro-level smartphone experience without the pro price tag, the OPPO Find X9 is exactly what you're looking for. With its exceptionally capable cameras, beautiful display, snappy performance, and unbeatable battery life, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better device in this price range.
